Is small ship cruising for me?

It happens to every traveler. You find yourself searching for a different way to explore. A more personal way to vacation. So you start thinking about cruising small. But what can you expect? What’s the difference between cruising small and cruising big? Well, why wonder? The answers you’re looking for are here.

What’s included in my cruise?

When you cruise with Blount, many parts of your cruise experience are included in your fare.  Your accommodations onboard, delicious meals (including complimentary house wine and beer with lunch and dinner), and all onboard entertainment is included.  What’s more, most cruises have a historian or naturalist traveling with you, ready to provide information about the sights, people, and wildlife you’re seeing.  Your fare also covers things like our glass bottom boat tours, snorkeling excursions, and performances by local musicians, storytellers, and area experts.

How does dining work?

Unlike the big cruise ships, you’ll get to know your chefs personally. And thanks to the smaller cruise size, we can constantly revise our menus to fit our passengers. Better yet, our chefs pride themselves in providing healthy meals made from local ingredients, and often create meals based on regional specialties of the destination you’re visiting. On Blount Small Ship Adventures, all of our meals are served in a single sitting, with an open seating policy. So it’s easy to get to know your fellow passengers as you share stories about the day’s adventures.

In between meals, beverages and snacks are available 24 hours a day. Have dietary restrictions? Just tell our chefs, and they’ll whip up something just for you. After all, when you cruise small, even meals are more personal.

Are Blount Small Ship Adventures Really B.Y.O.B?

Luther Blount never liked the idea of overcharging his fellow adventurers for drinks.  That’s why when you cruise with Blount, you’re invited to “bring your own bottle.”  So if you have a favorite bottle of bubbly, a great wine from home, or a certain kind of cocktail you love to sip at sunset, bring it along, and we'll keep it chilled in the lounge.  We’ll provide the mixers, barware, and bottle storage, free.  The best part is, because you're bringing your own drinks, you won't have to worry about ringing up a big bar tab at the end of your trip.  And that's certainly worth a toast.

What is there to do on a small ship cruise?

Many of our cruises feature live music, played by local musicians from our favorite destinations. Depending on the cruise, you could hear steel drum bands, jazz, bluegrass, or even some reggae. Or, you can grab your camera and take part in our photography classes, and make your vacation snapshots Pulitzer-ready. You could sip your way through a wine tasting. Or enjoy seminars about local culture, cuisine and history of our destinations. Of course, there are plenty of chances to dance under the stars, and much more. Want even more options? Click here.

How about shore excursions?

We know how valuable your time in port is, so we try our hardest to create a diverse selection of excursions that make every trip off ship something special. So put on your bathing suit, and go snorkeling in pristine waters. Explore coral reefs right off the stern, far away from the big crowds. Take a bike out for a pedal-powered tour. Learn from a naturalist about the local flora and fauna. Or sign up for kayaking, and get a whole new perspective on the world.

Of course, we also offer plenty of optional excursions, to help you get even more out of your vacation. Sail with us, and you could explore the ancient ruins of Quirigua in Guatemala. Experience colonial Willamsburg. Or discover the many wonders of the Niagara region, including wineries, and even ride the Maid of the Mist to the base of Niagara Falls.

And we haven't even mentioned the glass bottom boat, guided tours of our favorite ports, and the chance to experience our destinations, without feeling like you’re being herded among thousands of other travelers.

What about cruising with children?

We've carefully built our cruises for experienced travelers. The kind of people who are ready to take a break from the hustle, bustle, and chaos of the big ships. With that in mind, we welcome older children, ages 14 and older into our family of explorers.
